When Amit Semwal, 31, received a phone call on Tuesday afternoon, he was about 20 km away from his home in the mountain village of Mukhba. The caller's voice panicked, something terrible was happening in nearby Dharali. Within minutes, news of a sudden and devastating flash flood began to spread. Mukhba, located just 200 metres from Dharali but across the hill, soon became the vantage point from which horrifying visuals of the flash flood spread across social media. Semwal managed to reach close to Dharali, but the final 20 metres proved impossible as the road was submerged and the area was dangerously unstable.

KOZHIKODE: Police have registered a suo motu case after a video surfaced on social media showing a group of men threatening a Christian pastor in Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad and accusing him of attempting religious conversion. The men, allegedly affiliated with the Sangh Parivar, can be seen issuing violent threats, warning the pastor not to visit Hindu households again. The incident reportedly took place in April, but no case was registered at the time as no formal complaint was filed. AHMEDABAD: When 89-year-old Gustad Borjorji Engineer passed away in Feb 2014, he left behind a flat for his caregiver's granddaughter by writing a will. A city civil court last week granted probate of that will, bestowing the deceased's property to the person who was not blood-related to him. Engineer, who was previously engaged with Tata Industries, wrote a will a month before he passed away on Feb 22, 2014. He had no legal heir - son or daughter. His wife passed away in 2001.
